An abundance has been stated in the press not long ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the internet adaptation of this quintessential game present a lifeline, or might it not compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an age old game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had undergone a recent comeback in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti smoking law across Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes while marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favored areas where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlors. Players have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not given up on this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realise that they can play bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective portion of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the law has left a number of bingo players with no alternative.
