Might the Cigarette Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Players Online?

A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge tax breaks to help keep the industry afloat. But will the internet adaptation of this traditional game provide a escape, or will it in no way compare to its land based relative?
Bingo is an established game normally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had undergone a recent increase in popularity with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls rather than the bars on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the anti smoking law throughout United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes while dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public areas will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti smoking law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Obviously they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the web. Players realize that they can play bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and cigarette and still enjoy huge jackpots. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.
Of course wagering on on the web is unlikely to replace the communal part of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
