A lot has been stated in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the cigarette ban in the UK. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry afloat. However can the internet adaptation of this classic game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based equivalent?

Bingo has been an established game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban around UK.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public area will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common areas where players like to smoke.

The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlours. Profits have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not forgotten this age old game?

The answer is on the net. People know that they can bet on bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the internet will never replace the collective part of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
