Much has been reported in the press recently concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a result of the anti smoking law in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for big tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But will the internet adaptation of this traditional game offer a salvation, or might it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an familiar game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law around United Kingdom.

No longer will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public areas will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favored places where folks like to smoke.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlours. Profits have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Of course they have not cast aside this classic game?

The answer is online. People are now realizing that they can play bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and cig and in the end, have a chance at huge prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the web will never replace the communal part of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
