Might the Anti Cigarette Law in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Web?

An abundance has been reported in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the cigarette ban in the UK. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But will the net version of this traditional game provide a lifeline, or might it not compare to its land based kin?
Bingo has been an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game recently had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to visit the bingo halls rather than the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the legislating of the cigarette ban around United Kingdom.
No more will gamblers be able to puff on cigarettes while marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular locations where folks like to smoke.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the business is absolutely struggling for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Obviously they haven’t given up on this familiar game?
The answer is on the web. Players realise that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beer and fag and still enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective portion of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a lot of bingo players with little alternative.
