Bingo and Oklahoma: Two birds of a feather
by Rogelio on Oct.12, 2020, under Bingo
Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That is due to the fact that the Indian tribes of Oklahoma have operated Bingo games for ages. Guests from each of the neighboring states load up in vans and visit Oklahoma to bet on Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. From that time, twenty three of the thirty nine Native bands located in Oklahoma have established gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today run ten gambling halls of their own. Bingo was the game on which these casinos were built on. automated games such as slots weren’t permitted, because they are believed to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to permit massive Indian betting gambling dens. You will now see Amerindian gambling dens with slot machines, video poker and 21 tables. Craps and roulette are not yet authorized in the Indian gambling dens yet, but that is simply a waiting game. No one can say with what having other games in the bingo parlors will do for the appeal of bingo.
