Bingo and Oklahoma: 2 Peas in a Pod
by Rogelio on May.26, 2021, under Bingo
Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That’s because the Native tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for decades. Patrons from many of the surrounding states load up in vans and travel into Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) was introduced after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court just the prior year. Since that instance, twenty three of the 39 American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have opened gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the wagering rules, and today run 10 casinos of their own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were built on. digital games such as slots were not approved, because they are thought to lead to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.
In recent years, Oklahoma rules have altered to allow for large Native wagering gambling dens. You’ll now find Indian gambling dens with slot machine games, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are still not approved in the Native casinos yet, however this is only a waiting game. Nobody can authority whether having other gambling hall games in the bingo parlors will do for the popularity of bingo.
