A lot has been talked in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry singing the blues because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the internet version of this traditional game provide a reprieve, or will it never compare to its real life equivalent?

Bingo has been an enduring game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in appeal with younger men and women opting to go to the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the anti cigarette law across United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular places where many people enjoy smoking.

The effects of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already banned in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Of course they have not forgotten this established game?

The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can participate in bingo using their computer while enjoying a cocktail and smoke and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the net can never replace the collective aspect of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
