Could the Smoking Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts Online?

A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago about the bingo industry struggling as a consequence of the smoking ban in England. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry afloat. But does the online version of this traditional game present a escape, or might it in no way compare to its real life relative?
Bingo has been an ancient game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent comeback in appeal with younger people opting to go to the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the anti smoking law all over England and Wales.
No more will players be allowed to smoke whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public area will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular areas where people like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already not permitted in the bingo halls. Profits have dropped and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Certainly they have not abandoned this established game?
The answer is online. People know that they can wager on bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and cig and in the end, enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself just about perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
