Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod

by Rogelio on May.12, 2020, under Bingo

Oklahoma has long been synonymous with Bingo. That’s owing to the fact that the American Indian tribes of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for many years. Patrons from every one of the surrounding states load up in vans and travel into Oklahoma to bet on Bingo on the weekends.

The 1988 (IGRA) Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a landmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year prior. From that time, twenty three of the thirty nine Native tribes of Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Indian band to take advantage of the wagering rules, and today run ten gambling dens of their own. Bingo is the game on which these gambling dens were built on. Electronic games like slot machine games weren’t authorized, since they’re believed to contribute to gambling addiction more than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to permit big Indian wagering gambling halls. You will now find Indian casinos with slots, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are not approved in the American Indian gambling dens as of yet, but that is only a matter of time. No one can say with whether having different games in the bingo parlors will do for the draw of bingo.
