Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod
by Rogelio on Apr.24, 2026, under Bingo
Oklahoma has for a long time been interrelated with Bingo. This is because the Amerindian tribes of Oklahoma have run Bingo games for years. Patrons from many of the surrounding states get in vehicles and visit Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo on the weekends.
The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) became law after a landmark decree by The U.S. Supreme Court the year prior. From that time, 23 of the thirty nine Indian tribes of Oklahoma have introduced bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the gaming rules, and today operate 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo was the game on which the above-mentioned casinos were founded. Electronic games like slots were not allowed, owing to the fact that they’re believed to lead to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.
In the past few years, Oklahoma governing edicts has altered to allow for massive Indian betting gambling halls. You will now see American Indian gambling dens with one armed bandits, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are not yet allowed in the American Indian gambling dens as of yet, although that is only a matter of time. Nobody can authority whether having different gambling hall games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
